CAC DESIGN & PLANNING

Adjacency Diagram      By Epstein Architecture

This diagram depicts the desired adjacencies between major program elements. A grand lobby with natural light, plantings, seating, and artwork is envisioned as the building's hub and central public gathering space. The outdoors and indoors blur together as the entire campus becomes an art and sculpture garden. The main entrance and active program with windows are located along the streets, while the parking is tucked in the back with a secondary quiet entrance. Service access is from a side driveway or service street.

Inspiration

Inspired by the Lowcountry's beautiful and unique natural features, the CAC's architecture and materials reference majestic live oak canopies, Spanish moss, and verdant marsh grasses.

Designed as a public square for gathering, the heart of the CAC will be a light-filled main lobby hosting rotating art and events. In the evening, the lobby will glow like a lantern beckoning residents and visitors to come inside and partake in activities.

Art studios will be designed to foster community, offer glimpses into the various activities and offerings, and encourage unscripted interactions.

With its architecture evoking Lowcountry's unique live oak canopies, the music hall will host symphonic performances, opera and ballet, film screenings, comedy acts, speaking engagements, graduations, and much more.
